Dr. Debasis Mallik

Debasis Mallik is a Ph. D. in Environmental Economics, and has close to thirty years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. Immediately after completing M. Sc. in Economics with a specialization in Econometrics, he started his career as a teacher of Mathematics and Statistics at St Xaviers, Sahibganj. He joined ICFAI Hyderabad after 2.5 years at St Xaviers with a dual responsibility of teaching Quantitative Methods and Economics at ICFAI Business School (IBS) and as a Member of the Editorial Board of ICFAI Publications. During this period, he has published several articles on global issues and papers in international peer-reviewed journals. After working with ICFAI for over 7 years, Debasis joined Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad as a Consultant in the Centre for Analytical Finance. While working with ISB between 2002 and 2004, he completed his PhD in Demand-Side Management of Water and eventually decided to move on and joined SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai.

He started his career at SPJIMR teaching Microeconomics, Quantitative Methods, Multivariate Methods, Business Research Methods and Basic Econometrics. In 2010, he was given the responsibility to start an international program funded by the EU – named the Global Management Program (GMP). The program started with a single partner school – ESB Business School, Reutlingen University, Germany. Within a couple of years, under the leadership of Debasis, the programs gained momentum and attracted more partners to collaborate, in Europe, UK and the US. Today the program has over 10 partner schools that serve SPJIMR in its global initiatives. He was also responsible for reviving the SPJIMR journal – SAMVID. Other than heading the GMP, he also taught as a visiting faculty in renowned business schools in countries like, The Netherlands, Germany, France, US, UK, Singapore, and Dubai. 

Since April 2022, he is associated with Prestige Institute of Management and Research (PIMR), Indore as the Senior Director – in-charge of the entire operations of all post graduate programs, undergraduate programs, and the department of Law.  After joining PIMR, Indore, he has initiated a few new-age programs that are becoming increasingly relevant in the VUCA environment. He has been instrumental in starting two Centres of Excellence, namely, Exponentia (a training and consulting wing for family businesses) and CorpX (Prestige Centre for Organizational Research, Practice & Excellence).  He has also successfully launched a new program – Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA) – equivalent to a 1-year MBA program. This program also provides the option to students to join one of PIMR’s partner schools in the US, UK or Europe to complete MS in Management with specialization or MBA with support from the partner schools on internship and placements. In the existing MBA program, Debasis has been able to bring a wave of newness by introducing a few non-classroom courses like, Personality Development Laboratory (PDL), Learning Management thru Practice (LMP), Social Internship (Samvedna), and so on.
